TAMAN | Urban Lighting Design Platform

TAMAN introduces a new methodology for urban lighting. Using AI to analyse site geometry, zoning, and lighting objectives before product selection, it calculates the optimal lighting solution, replacing fixture-first design with an optimisation-first approach for smarter cities.

I selected Taman for its innovative approach to urban lighting, reversing the conventional methodology by analysing the urban environment, geography and geometry before defining clear lighting objectives. By using technology to promote responsible illumination, preserve darkness and prioritise urban and environmental well-being, Taman demonstrates a meaningful rethinking of how our cities should be lit.

One of Lighting Design’s biggest future problems is overlit night skies. I like that the concept behind the development of this software is focussed to mitigate this and I particularly like the "optimization-first" approach that allows for an empirical study of the site, then aids for decision making in a helpful real-time way without compromising on standards.
